How can MIC damage be detected?

F.J. Murphy & Son, Inc. uses state of the art ultrasonic guided wave technology, MICScan™, which is used to nondestructively and non-invasively inspect FPS for MIC damage.  MICScan™  differs greatly from traditional ultrasonic (UT) techniques.  It was recently developed specifically for the inspection of MIC where traditional techniques would not work or have proven impractical.

Should you replace the entire FPS? Should you clean it with a chemical treatment? MIC damage may not have invaded your entire FPS.  You need to know the extent of damage in your system to make an informed decision.  Perhaps you have no MIC at all in your system and nothing to worry about.  MICScan™ measurement can provide the FPS manager with the actual extent and severity of MIC damage.  Subsequent measurements of pipe wall thickness can provide an informed decision to replace vs. clean.  In critical applications, a 100% FPS inspection can be performed.  Remember, water chemistry tests can determine the presence of MIC but can never tell you exactly where it's at; MICScan will pinpoint the specific problem area with unbelievable accuracy!
